How to Start a Sir Speedy Franchise in 7 Steps: Checklist
Opening path
How long does it take to open a Sir Speedy franchise?
180 days
Official opening window
The 2026 FDD says a new Sir Speedy Center will typically open within 180 days after signing, and Franchise Agreement §7 treats failure to open within 180 days from execution as a terminable default. Section 4(b), however, separately says to open within 180 days after signing the lease. Because the triggers differ, resolve the governing deadline in the final contract; the period is not an opening guarantee.
Data basis: Sir Speedy, LLC; FDD issued March 25, 2026; new, VetFran new, inside-territory multiple-center, outside-territory multiple-center, conversion, and approved transfer paths. Qualification
What must an applicant qualify for before Sir Speedy approves the deal?
Sir Speedy’s parent-company franchise ownership process begins with an inquiry, an introductory call, a Request for Consideration and a web conference. The Request for Consideration is described as a preliminary financial qualification and eligibility document, but the 2026 FDD does not publish a fixed minimum net worth, liquid-capital amount, credit score, degree or printing-industry experience requirement.
✓
Application approvalThe Franchise Review Committee must approve the applicant; meeting any preliminary screen does not guarantee approval.
✓
Market and funding amountSir Speedy must approve the chosen market and the amount of financing, not the applicant’s financing method.
✓
Personal responsibilityThe applicant and spouse sign the personal guaranty; a 50% owner also signs the Franchise Agreement and guaranty.
✓
Owner participationThe franchisee must directly supervise and participate in daily operations; every full-time managing owner must complete training.
✓
Conversion proofA conversion applicant must show reasonable financial ability and authorize a credit check before becoming eligible to sign.
✓
Additional-center standingAn existing owner must be current, meet revenue and operating standards, and satisfy managerial and business standards.

Does territory approval mean the site, lease and buildout are approved?
No. The Franchise Agreement may be signed before the exact address and protected territory are finalized. Sir Speedy later prepares a Territory and Location Designation Sheet after identifying the territory and approving the site. The protected territory blocks another Sir Speedy franchise or company-owned Sir Speedy Center, but it is not exclusive against customer solicitation, affiliate brands, other distribution channels or all competing businesses.

Site approval is not territory protection
A market discussion, proposed territory, approved site, executed lease and completed Center are separate milestones. The FDD also permits an “address only” designation in dense metropolitan areas. Obtain the final map and written designation rather than assuming a radius from an informal discussion.
Which disclosed periods control the opening sequence?
Sir Speedy disclosed review and opening periods
Days are shown on one scale but begin from different triggers; they must not be added together.
Interpretation: site search is the earliest applicant-controlled critical path; lease, buildout, permits, equipment delivery and training can overlap only when the parties and third parties allow it.

Contractual deadline
Franchise Agreement §4(b) says to open no later than 180 days after signing the site lease, while §7(a)(ii) permits termination for failure to open within 180 days after agreement execution. Item 11 also uses the agreement-signing trigger for the typical period. The final agreement should state which trigger controls and whether any extension is written, discretionary or unavailable; the FDD discloses no automatic extension right.

Sir Speedy does not disclose an Area Development Agreement or mandatory multi-unit development schedule. An existing franchisee may apply for one additional Center at a time, inside or outside the current territory, with no disclosed maximum. The multiple-center addenda make the terms coterminous and require a new untrained manager to attend Sir Speedy University at the franchisee’s expense.

Opening readiness
What should be verified before setting the opening date?
✓
Current transaction documentsConfirm the final Franchise Agreement, state addenda, guaranty and any SBA, multiple-center, conversion or transfer addendum.
✓
Payment triggerReconcile Item 5’s deposit-at-signing language with Franchise Agreement §2(a)’s deposit-upon-application wording.
✓
Territory mapObtain the Territory and Location Designation Sheet and confirm whether protection is a mapped area or address only.
✓
Deadline triggerResolve the 180-days-from-agreement versus 180-days-from-lease inconsistency and document any extension.
✓
Lease protectionsConfirm site approval, lease review, signage rights, buildout scope, landlord obligations and local legal review.
✓
Operational readinessVerify permits, insurance certificate, card acceptance, owner/operator sign, approved equipment, software, internet and training completion.
✓
Opening sign-offAsk what inspection or written confirmation Sir Speedy currently uses because the FDD does not describe a separate authorization certificate.
✓
System validationUse Item 20 contacts to ask current and former franchisees about site search, buildout, training and actual opening delays.
The FTC advises prospects to request the most current FDD and any available updates before signing. The FTC franchise buyer guide also explains how to use Item 20 contacts and professional review without treating disclosure as a government endorsement. Sir Speedy’s current public brand and management information is available on its official About Sir Speedy page.
Verified synthesis: the standard path is inquiry and Request for Consideration, FDD review and validation, applicant and market approval, Franchise Agreement execution, territory and site completion, lease and buildout, approved equipment and systems, six-day University training, disclosed on-site setup and opening. The total timeline is officially described as typically 180 days, but the contract contains competing 180-day triggers. The key applicant-controlled dependency is securing and readying an approved site; the key franchisor/third-party dependency is site decision, lease/buildout, permitting and vendor completion. The opening-deadline trigger and any extension mechanism require written verification.
