OPENING PATH

How do you open a Mac Tools franchise in the United States?

No single clock
Timeline mode: milestone-only

Mac Tools does not disclose one complete inquiry-to-opening period in its 2026 FDD. Its public FAQ says one to two months after approval is typical, while the FDD estimates less than 14 days from mutual Franchise Agreement signing to commencing the Route. Those clocks start at different events, so the defensible answer is a verified sequence rather than one combined promise.

Data basis: Stanley Industrial & Automotive, LLC, through its Mac Tools Division; U.S. FDD issued February 24, 2026 and amended February 26, 2026; traditional one-Route offer plus disclosed conversion, transfer and additional-Route paths. Primary provisions: Items 5–12 and 15–17; Franchise Agreement; Candidate Confidentiality Agreement; conversion and assignment exhibits. Checked July 16, 2026. QUALIFICATION

What must an applicant qualify for before Mac Tools awards the franchise?

Mac Tools begins with an application and interview, then uses a discovery ride and training to decide whether the candidate and the mobile-route business fit. Its official site says an automotive-tools background is not necessary, but its FAQ says it recruits people committed to personally managing the business full-time. Meeting a marketing-page description does not guarantee approval.

The 2026 FDD does not publish a universal minimum credit score, net worth or liquid-capital threshold. A candidate may be required to complete a confidential third-party profile assessment. Any Wells Fargo truck, Starter Inventory or working-capital application is separate: Wells Fargo independently decides eligibility and terms, and financing is not promised.

If the franchise operates through a corporation or LLC, the natural person who will operate the Mac Tools Business must own and control at least 51%. Each owner must sign the required guaranty and ownership documents. The operator must actively participate; a one-Route franchisee must personally operate the Route unless Mac Tools agrees otherwise. All Route operators need a valid driver’s license and a driving record demonstrating reasonable care.

Buyer verification

Ask Mac Tools to identify every approval criterion applied to the applicant, any co-investor whose income or assets are counted, the proposed business entity, and the lender. The FDD permits guaranties or investor acknowledgments from owners and certain third parties whose resources support qualification.

TRAINING

How much verified training occurs around opening?

Required training hours disclosed for the opening path

Ranges are estimates; the units are hours and therefore comparable. Optional meetings and event training are excluded.

Mentor Ride 40–60 Mac Tools University 44–100 DM Fast Start 80 0 25 50 75 100 hours

The classroom program is the approval gate; the 80-hour DM Fast Start is post-signing field training that continues after the Route begins.

Source: 2026 Mac Tools FDD, Item 11 training table, pp. 53–54. The FDD labels the hours as estimates and permits more or less training depending on proficiency.

MOBILE ROUTE

Does Mac Tools require a site, lease or protected territory?

No traditional retail site or buildout is disclosed. Item 9 marks site selection, acquisition, lease and site development as not applicable. The business is largely operated from an approved truck, usually supported by a home office; Mac Tools does not select or approve that office, conform it to local rules, obtain permits or construct it.

The commercial assignment is a Route, not an exclusive geographic territory. Attachment A lists Stops and potential customers, and Mac Tools’ initial policy is at least 325 potential customers per Route. Mac Tools promises not to assign those Stops to another Mac Tools franchisee, distributor or employee distributor, but the franchisor and affiliates retain other sales channels and may sell to customers on the Route.

Route is not exclusive territory

Before signing, preview Attachment A and verify the actual shop names, addresses, customer counts, drive pattern and start date. A Route acknowledgment states that the candidate had an opportunity to preview the customer list; it does not create ownership of the Stops or Customers.

READINESS CHECK

What should be verified before signing and before the first customer stop?

Disclosure clock: Record the date the complete current FDD was furnished and confirm the 14-calendar-day period has elapsed. A franchisor-imposed material agreement revision generally triggers a separate seven-calendar-day period under 16 CFR §436.2.
Training gate: Confirm the Mentor Ride, classroom dates, confidentiality documents, successful-completion standard and any written waiver.
Agreement package: Identify the Franchise Agreement, Route Attachment A, Purchase Agreement, Security Agreement, Software Agreement, guaranties, entity documents and any financing or state addendum.
Route evidence: Review the customer-stop list, count, drive pattern and proposed start date; distinguish Stops from an exclusive territory.
Truck readiness: Obtain written confirmation that the model, displays, paint and designated Graphics Package installation meet current Mac Tools specifications.
Insurance and permissions: Confirm commercial general liability, commercial auto, physical damage, inventory/property coverage, loss-payee forms and locally applicable registrations.
Inventory and systems: Confirm payment and delivery timing for Starter Inventory, computer hardware, Business Software, internet, email and any required payment-processing provider.
Opening trigger: Verify the Franchise Agreement acceptance date, Route effective/start information, any state cancellation period, truck and inventory release, and field-training schedule.

For federal due-diligence context, see the FTC guidance on buying a franchise. Local licensing, vehicle, tax, employment and insurance questions should be confirmed with the relevant authorities and qualified professionals.

FINAL SYNTHESIS

What is the practical Mac Tools opening decision?

The verified path is application and interview, discovery, business preparation and FDD review, Candidate Confidentiality Agreement, Mentor Ride, successful Mac Tools University completion, execution of the Franchise Agreement and related documents, Route assignment, truck and inventory readiness, then commencement with required field training.

The total inquiry-to-opening duration is undisclosed. Mac Tools’ public one-to-two-month estimate begins after approval; the FDD’s less-than-14-day estimate begins after both parties sign. The principal applicant-controlled dependency is completing training while securing a compliant truck, funding, insurance and local permissions. The principal franchisor or third-party dependencies are candidate approval, Route assignment, lender decision and truck delivery.

The key unresolved point to verify in writing is the exact Route start/effective date and release conditions for the truck and Starter Inventory, including any state cancellation period. The 2026 FDD does not disclose a separate universal opening certificate or a fixed inquiry-to-opening deadline.
