Operating answer
How does a Color Me Mine franchise operate after opening?
Core model
Color Me Mine is a staffed ceramic-and-craft studio where guests choose bisqueware, paint in-studio or through authorized group and to-go programs, and leave pieces for glazing and kiln firing before pickup. The franchisee supplies labor, inventory, local marketing and daily execution; Color Me Mine LLC sets the product, supplier, technology, branding, reporting, territory and quality framework.

Offering and demand
What does the studio sell, and who buys it?
The unit sells a guided creative experience plus the physical ceramic or craft item that the guest personalizes.
The 2025 FDD authorizes bisqueware, paint, materials, artistic instruction and glazing services for paint-your-own pottery, with related activities such as wet clay, mosaics, glass and tie dye when Color Me Mine LLC authorizes them. The operating premise is a retail studio with roughly 40 to 70 seats, not a production-only ceramics shop. All goods and services must be approved under the Color Me Mine System.
The general public is the disclosed market, with children identified as a specific segment for events. The consumer-facing Color Me Mine experience page describes plates, mugs, bowls and figurines for all ages. Demand also includes family outings, dates, individual painters, birthday parties, adult events, team-building groups, workshops, classes, gift-card users and authorized at-home projects. The official customer FAQ says reservation policy varies by independently operated studio.

People and accountability
Who runs the unit and who performs each function?
A Color Me Mine studio may be manager-run, but the agreement requires active, trained operational supervision rather than an unmonitored investment.
The franchisee or general manager, defined as the Manager, must devote at least 40 hours per week to management and operation. The owner, Manager or another employee who completed initial training must oversee the studio. A Manager does not need equity, but Color Me Mine LLC must know the Manager’s identity and may require a successor Manager to complete training before starting.
Owner participation
The FDD does not characterize Color Me Mine as absentee or semi-absentee. It permits a qualified Manager to carry the 40-hour operating obligation, while the franchisee remains responsible for staffing, employment decisions, compliance, financial reporting and the performance of the franchised business.

Color Me Mine LLC
Affiliates and approved parties
The franchisor’s training and support page identifies Online University, marketing programs, a localized website, an intranet support center, technical support, sales-report access and POS inventory tracking. The FDD remains controlling where the page is broader: Color Me Mine LLC offers guidance but does not assume the franchisee’s bookkeeping, inventory control, operating problems or employee management.
Inputs, systems and controls
Which suppliers, inventory rules and technology are mandatory?
The operating model is supplier- and system-dependent: the franchisee buys most inputs within the approved network and must run the prescribed POS, communications and reporting environment.
All proprietary ceramic and craft products must come from Color Me Mine affiliates or approved suppliers, and 90% of non-proprietary ceramic and craft products must also come from those sources. Item 8 estimates that 80% to 90% of ongoing purchases and leases are from the franchisor, affiliates, approved suppliers or sources meeting specifications. The studio must carry required minimum inventory and use authorized universal SKU numbers.
Color Me Mine LLC may add or discontinue products, change minimum inventory, designate a sole source, withdraw supplier approval and require a written approval process for alternatives. A franchisee-proposed product or supplier receives an approval decision or stated rejection reason within 90 days. There is no purchasing cooperative; the disclosed affiliates received revenue from franchisee purchases during the fiscal year ended September 30, 2025.
Franchisor control
The strongest operating control is not a single fee or vendor. It is Color Me Mine LLC’s combined authority over authorized merchandise, approved sources, minimum inventory, POS data, digital identities, operating hours, inspection rights and revisions to the Confidential Operations Manuals.
Demand boundaries
How do marketing, territory and channel rules shape local operations?
The franchisee develops local demand inside a Protected Territory, but the territory is not exclusive and online or alternative-channel rights remain restricted.
The Protected Territory generally contains at least 250,000 business, seasonal and residential population, although rural, seasonal or destination trade areas may be smaller. Color Me Mine LLC will not place another conventional Color Me Mine studio inside the territory during the initial term, but Non-Traditional locations in Captive Facilities are excluded from that protection. Painting with a Twist or Pinot’s Palette territories may also overlap.
The FDD offers one approved-location studio under the Franchise Agreement and gives the franchisee no right to open a satellite. “Non-Traditional” is used as a territory exception for Captive Facilities; the document does not describe a separate nontraditional franchise agreement, staffing model or customer workflow.
The franchisee may sell to customers from other territories but may not market or solicit outside its own Protected Territory without written approval. Mail-order, Internet, catalog and other distribution channels also require authorization. The franchisor and affiliates may use alternative channels for products the local studio does not offer, without compensation to the franchisee. The official location finder is part of the brand’s consumer routing, while the assigned studio website must appear in local marketing.
Local demand generation is the franchisee’s responsibility within brand rules. The FDD identifies search marketing, local media, chambers of commerce, networking, website updates, approved social media, seasonal materials, gift-card programs, workshops, classes, parties and customer email databases. Franchise-created advertising requires prior approval, and the unit must honor required system promotions and use the assigned Color Me Mine website and email identities.
Item 20 signal
What does Item 20 show about the operating footprint?
At September 30, 2025, the U.S. system was almost entirely operated by franchisees rather than Color Me Mine LLC.
U.S. outlet composition at fiscal year-end 2025
Exact Item 20 counts; total equals 125 outlets.
The system added 12 franchised outlets during fiscal 2025, rising from 112 to 124, while the company-owned population remained one outlet.
Source: Color Me Mine 2025 FDD, Item 20, Tables 1, 3 and 4, pp. 38–42. Reporting date: September 30, 2025. Reconciliation: 124 + 1 = 125; 99.2% + 0.8% = 100%.
Item 20 also listed 24 signed franchise agreements for outlets not yet open at September 30, 2025; four had opened by the December 24, 2025 issuance date. That pipeline is relevant to supplier capacity, opening support and territory planning, but it does not change the operating duties of an open studio.
Buyer verification
What operating details still require direct verification?
The FDD defines the control structure, but several unit-level mechanics depend on current manuals, vendor specifications and the exact Protected Territory.
Operating-model synthesis
What is the practical operating conclusion?
Color Me Mine converts guest visits, group events, classes and authorized take-home projects into sales of bisqueware, materials, instruction and studio finishing. The franchisee’s central responsibility is coordinating trained labor, inventory, kiln workflow, local demand and reporting. The strongest dependency is Color Me Mine LLC’s control of products, suppliers, technology and standards. The critical territory distinction is protected conventional siting without full exclusivity. The largest undisclosed question is the current vendor-and-software configuration each studio must use.
